Lipstick Monster

Lipstick is a beauty tool that centers on the mouth. It makes it visible, frames it, draws attention to it. It also carries a set of rules: look perfect, smile, be pleasant.

But the lipstick is also one of the most visible symbols of toxic beauty standards. The pressure to always perform femininity, to always look done, always be agreeable.

The Lipstick Monster series takes that object and mutates it. Each sculpture is hand-built in stoneware, modeled on the lipstick form, and given teeth, growths, and surfaces that contradict everything the original object is supposed to represent.
