Orchid Monster

I heard this story when I was a child. A man filled his room with orchids and choked to death in his sleep. At night, orchids reverse their breathing and pull the oxygen from the air.

Something beautiful and silent can kill you without ever moving.

That is what fascinated me. Something can be dangerous without looking dangerous at all. That is what I wanted to make visible. The Orchid Monster series are hand-built stoneware sculptures that take the orchid form. You can see the teeth, the interior growths.
